Kekrops - the first mythical king of Athens whose body was both human and serpent in form. Supposedly born spontaneously from the land of Athens itself, he was responsible for introducing the first elements of civilized life to the region and overseeing the contest between Athena and Poseidon for control over Attica. Our design is based on a depiction of Kekrops on an Athenian kylix that dates 450-400 BC and uses the background color of the tote to create a true red-figure effect.
