Around 1,600 BC, the ancient town of Akrotiri on the island of Thera (Santorini) was buried by an enormous volcanic eruption, preserving buildings and artifacts including decorative wall frescos. One work, known as The Flotilla Fresco, depicts ships sailing between islands and conveys the nature of the Aegean sea and the landscape of Thera prior to the disaster.
Our design features an artistic rendering of the dolphins that leap and play freely throughout this amazing work. The colorfulness of the dolphins is juxtaposed against a white background scarred by cracks of the originally smooth surface of the fresco.
The soft fabric and flared skirt give it an elegant twist that brings out the intricate design with a beautiful vibrancy.
