The Native American Mimbres culture was centered on the large river valleys of southwestern New Mexico and southeast Arizona. During its “Classic” period (1000-1150 AD) the Mimbres produced a characteristic black-on-white pottery decorated with geometric designs that often feature drawings of humans, animals, and insects. Our design is an artistic rendering of one such vessel with two opposing fish, seemingly jumping out of a stylized river or stream running between them.
