Meditations (Τὰ εἰς ἑαυτόν – lit. “Things to one’s self”), is a series of personal writings by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius who ruled from AD 161 to 180. It consists of 12 books recording his ideas on Stoic philosophy, which he used for his own guidance and self-improvement. The work explored a wide variety of themes including the necessity of examining one’s judgement, strong ethical principles, maintaining focus, and finding one's place in the universe.

In recent years, the Stoic ideas embodied in the Meditations have enjoyed a new-found popularity in the face of a rapidly changing and, at times, increasingly hostile world. Our design features an artistic rendering of a bronze sculptural fragment of Marcus Aurelius accompanied by a quote from Meditations 4.3: “Things do not take hold upon the mind, but stand outside unmoved, disturbances then, come only from the judgement within.”
