Anchor Mosaic Beach Towel

Anchor Mosaic Beach Towel

Regular price $38.00

Black and white mosaics came into style in the 1st century AD Italy and survived well into the 3rd century. They were most often used to represent marine motifs, especially when decorating Roman baths.

Our design is an artistic rendering of a black and white mosaic discovered in a villa at Ottaviano, a small settlement destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. It features a large anchor in the center surrounded by dolphins and swimming human figures. The simplicity of the composition framed by a strong wave-crest pattern makes for an elegant yet modern looking marine design.
