Odysseus' Helmet

Odysseus' Helmet

Regular price $28.00

In Iliad Book 10 (260–5), Homer describes a distinctive helmet worn by Odysseus:

On the inside there was a strong lining on interwoven straps, onto which a felt cap had been sewn in. The outside was cleverly adorned all around with rows of white tusks from a shiny-toothed boar, the tusks running in alternate directions in each row.”

The existence of such boar’s tusk helmets was confirmed archaeologically during the 19th century, corroborating that some details from the poems were based in reality.

This design is an artistic rendering of a bearded warrior wearing this distinctive piece of equipment. It is based on a helmet discovered in a chamber tomb at Mycenae from the 14th-13th century BC.

This thick cotton t-shirt is comfortable, soft, and its tubular construction means it's less fitted.
