Wealthy Romans wishing to escape Rome’s summer heat owned breathtaking seaside retreats known as villae maritimae. The splendor and social prestige of these houses led to their artistic depiction in wall frescoes.
Our design depicts a fresco of a villa maritima discovered in a villa at Castellammare di Stabia, Italy. The two-story building sits on a peninsula surrounded by the blue-green sea with its large sea-facing garden framed by a portico evoking feelings of leisure, solitude, and peacefulness.
