Some time around 470 BC in the city of Poseidonia in Magna Graecia, an unknown painter created the finest example of classical Greek wall painting that luckily survives in entirety.
Using only five colors (black, white, red, brown and blue), the artist composed a clean and minimalistic yet powerful image of a diver.
The austere simplicity of the scene is counterbalanced by the intensity of the moment as the diver is depicted in the air alone against the sky. It is the moment of crossing over right before his soul enters the sea of eternity.
