Xochipilli, whose name means “Prince of Flowers,” was a Mesoamerican fertility god linked with various functions, one of which was the patron deity of artistic creativity and inspiration associated with painting, writing, music, dance, and weaving. Our design features front and back views of an Aztec sculpture of Xochipilli, who is depicted seated with his masked face gazing upward. He is surrounded by expanding colored rings of himself, creating an effect echoing “tie-dye” fashion from the 1960s and 70s.
