Nerva. Trajan. Hadrian. Antoninus Pius. Marcus Aurelius. Known collectively as the “Five Good Emperors,” they reigned AD 98-180 – a period when the Roman Empire reached its greatest territorial extent and economic prosperity. Inspired by vintage album covers of the 60’s and 70’s, our design features a portrait bust of each emperor arranged in chronological order. The lighting highlights the stylistic development of portraiture during this era-from the realistic simplicity of Nerva, to the baroque style of Marcus Aurelius with its strong interplay of light and shadow.
