During the 8th-7th centuries BC, the city-state of Corinth became one of the main centers of pottery production in ancient Greece. This “Corinthian” style drew inspiration from decorative motifs of the Near East, including processions of mythical and non-mythical creatures, stylized vegetation, and human figures all rendered in the black-figure technique. Our design features an artistic rendering of one such procession featuring two opposing sphinxes flanked by panthers.
