This rare, larger than life-size bronze sculpture was cargo on that sank in a shipwreck around the mid 2nd century BC. It likely depicts Zeus, king of the Olympian gods at the instant of pause immediately before hurling a thunderbolt. This "calm before the storm" depiction is characteristic of the so-called Severe style, which dates this work to around 460 BC. Rendered in monochrome white on a black background.
